Norma Jean Phillips Carder, 84, passed May 5, 2022 following an extended illness. She was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on September 13, 1937.

Preceded in death by her father, Glenn Phillips, mother, Dorothy Renfrew Phillips and brother, David Phillips.

She is survived by her son, David Carder, daughter, Kim Carder Haley, son-in-law, Chuck Haley, grandsons, Chad Haley and Gus Carder and great-grandson, Caden Haley.  She is also survived by her brothers, Ken (Margie) Phillips and Dick (Jean) Phillips along with many nieces and nephews.

Jean was lovingly called Mamaw by many through the years even though oftentimes there was no blood relation.  She had a deep love for children, animals and enjoyed watching the birds every day at the bird feeders outside her window.  She found special joy in cardinals and hummingbirds.  She loved to watch sports from golf to NASCAR and everything in between, but her pride and joy was the St. Louis Cardinals.  She had a special fondness for Dauphin Island, Alabama after visiting each summer for a family vacation the past several years.

Jean will be cremated with arrangements being made by Nashville Cremation Center. A celebration of life in Ottumwa, Iowa is scheduled on June 11, 2022.

Nashville Cremation Center is honored to be entrusted with handling Ms. Carders's arrangements. Please visit her tribute page to leave a thoughtful note for the family.
