Obituary

Warren Ellis Bair, affectionately known as “Toad,” died on September 10, 2026, in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. He was born on December 28, 1952, in South Bend, Indiana.

Warren was a 1971 graduate of Culver High School and went on to graduate in 1975 from the Ogden College of Science and Engineering at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He built a long and dedicated career in medical testing, working as a lab technician in both Atlanta and Nashville. Over the years, he served as a Lab Supervisor at Baptist Hospital and later at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital. He was known as a hard-working man who took pride in his profession and the important work he did for many years. Warren retired in 2018, but the friendships he made through his career remained an important part of his life, and he kept in touch with a group of hospital friends after retirement.

Those who knew Warren will remember his dry sense of humor, his boisterous laugh, and the calm, steady presence he brought to the people closest to him. He carried with him fond memories of growing up in Culver, Indiana, surrounded by friends and family. He was a loving and supportive father.

Outside of work, Warren enjoyed simple pleasures that brought him happiness throughout his life. He loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs, and had several beloved dogs over the years, with a special fondness for cocker spaniels. He enjoyed learning about science and history, and he liked reading science fiction as well as crime and thriller novels. He loved going to the beach, sitting in the sun, taking long drives, and listening to music. Among his favorite artists were Bruce Springsteen, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Neil Young, and he also loved seeing live music in person. He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, especially women’s college and professional basketball.

In retirement, Warren continued to enjoy the companionship of dear friends from his hospital years. He went out to dinner with them each month, a tradition that reflected the lasting bonds he formed over the course of his career.

Warren is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Bair, and by his son-in-law, David Haugen. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence “Cubby” Bair; his mother, Virginia Bair; and his brother, Steve Bair.

He will be remembered with love for his intelligence, humor, loyalty, and the warmth he shared with family and friends. His memory will live on in the lives of those who knew him and loved him.
