Sylvia Abernathy

October 15, 1966 — August 3, 2023

Antioch

Raised on the island of Puerto Rico by her mother, Estrella Hernandez Rodriguez, Sylvia spent her childhood combing the beaches for seashells and causing mischief. In her late teens and early adult life, she moved to the state of New York to live with her father, Marcos Ramos. She shortly joined the United States Navy, where she met the love of her life, Randall Abernathy, aboard the USS Simon Lake.

They began their greatest adventure together on April 22,1988. It was never an easy marriage, full of deployments, moves, and medical hardships, but it was filled with many more moments of laughter, joy, and love, all with a family they had created together.

After living all along the eastern United States, Sylvia and her family settled down in Antioch, TN at the start of the new century. Sylvia battled valiantly against kidney failure, and all the health complications that go with it, for thirty years. Through it all, she never stopped smiling.

Sylvia passed away on August 3rd, 2023 at Tristar Summit Hermitage. In life she was surrounded by family and loved ones, so too was she surrounded by them in her passing.

Sylvia Ramos Abernathy is survived by her husband, Randall Wayne Abernathy Sr, her four children; Samantha Griesinger, Randall Abernathy Jr, Angélica Bedgood, and Tabitha Abernathy, and her grandchildren, Alexander Abernathy, Lily Abernathy, and one more on the way.
