Sara Bess Vaughan Edwards, age 97 of Nashville, TN entered into eternal peace with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday morning, June 15, 2017. She was born on February 24, 1920, daughter of the late Howard N. and Bessie C. Vaughan.Sara graduated from Goodlettsville High School in 1938 and attended Middle Tennessee State University. Sara married William E. Edwards, Jr. in 1950 and they were happily married for 11 years until he was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident. Sara worked for the Federal Government for over 40 years, first for the VA and ending her government service with the Office of Hearing and Appeals, retiring in 1985.She was a loyal member of Calvary United Methodist Church for 45 years, and served on many committees during those years. After retiring, Sara was a dedicated volunteer, serving at the hostess desk of Calvary UMC for 24 years. She also volunteered for many years at Bethlehem Centers of Nashville and The Pineapple Room at Cheekwood. Sara enjoyed studying botany, geography, playing cards, reading, traveling and most of all, spending time with her family - her greatest passion. Sara's favorite sports team was any sport her family was participating in - she was their most loyal fan.Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Bessie Vaughan, and her brother, Charles Vaughan.Sara is survived by her loving son, Gene and daughter-in-law, Kristy; and two adored grandchildren, Forrest and Lauren.A service to celebrate Sara's life will be conducted at 2 P.M., Saturday, June 17, 2017 in the Sanctuary of Calvary United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until the time of service at the church.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary UMC at 3701 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37215 or Bethlehem Centers of Nashville, 1417 Charlotte Avenue Nashville, TN 37203. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Avalon Hospice and NHC Place at the Trace for the loving care devoted to Sara in her final days.
