Peter W. Grimes, 71, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at St Thomas Hospital, Nashville, surrounded by his wife and children. Peter is preceded in death by his parents, James (Pete) Grimes and Virginia (Jenny) Walker Grimes. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Starr Grimes of Nolensville, son and daughter-in-law Whit and Courtney Grimes of Dickson, son Drew Grimes of Duncan, SC, and daughter Gracie Grimes of Murfreesboro; two brothers and their families: Al and Melinda Grimes, and nephews Matt and Eli; Chris and Lesa Grimes, and nieces Emily and Madeline; Mother-in-law, Betty Massengale; lifelong friends, a cousin and wife Steve and Carol Walker; and a host of family members, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues he knew and worked with over the years.Peter graduated from Summertown High School, Columbia State Community College, and Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, TN where he received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was active in numerous engineering organizations throughout his professional years and had recently retired from Mark West Energy Partners, LP with Marathon Petroleum in Ohio. Pete loved his family and holidays, a true respite from his job. He taught First Aid at Scout meetings when Whit and Drew were active members, and attended horse competitions with Gracie. Free time was at a minimum in recent years, but Pete loved being outdoors, esp. in the fall.He was a member of Summertown United Methodist Church since he was very young. However once moving to our home in Nolensville he was in regular attendance at Brentwood Baptist Church where he attended the Don Caldwell Bible study on Sundays and volunteered as part of the usher team, Room-in-the-Inn, and wherever he felt he could contribute. Besides the friends he made there over the years, he loved attending church services whenever possible, often saying how he enjoyed the Sunday sermons. Even while working out of state during the last half of his career he still attended when he was home, but lately due to Covid-19 he was unable to be there as he would have liked.Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice; Pete always tried to support Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee food.drives@secondharvestmidtn.org, Nashville Rescue Mission https://nashvillerescuemission.org/, and The Salvation Army location of your choice https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/.A Memorial Service is to be held at Brentwood Baptist Church, Brentwood, Tennessee on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 3 p.m. with visitation 1 hour prior.
