Obituary

Nancy Waugh Dowling

April 9, 1943 – October 8, 2026

Nancy Waugh Dowling, 83, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by her family.

Nancy was born on April 9, 1943, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Henry and Nan Waugh. She attended Tuscaloosa High School and Mount Vernon Junior College in Washington, D.C., before graduating from the University of Alabama. Following graduation, she taught first grade in Birmingham, Alabama. She later made her home in Meridian, Mississippi, where she raised her family and became deeply involved in the community.

Nancy was known for her selflessness, her warmth, and her genuine love of caring for others. She was the heart of her large extended family, always putting the needs of those she loved before her own. Whether spending time with her children and grandchildren, gathering with family and friends, or lending a helping hand, Nancy found her greatest happiness in bringing people together and making others feel loved.

She had a wonderful sense of humor and a joyful spirit. She loved Alabama football, trips to the mountains and the beach, tap dancing and dancing of any kind, and walking through the neighborhood with her friends. Above all, she treasured time spent with family and the friendships she cultivated throughout her life.

Nancy’s commitment to serving others extended well beyond her family. She was actively involved with the Boys & Girls Club in Meridian, where she devoted her time and energy to fundraising and supporting children in need. A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Meridian, where she taught Sunday school, and enjoyed delivering meals through the Meals on Wheels program. Her generosity, compassion, and willingness to help others touched countless lives in both Meridian and Tuscaloosa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Nan Waugh, and her sisters, Judy Anderson and Betty Green.

Nancy is survived by her three children, Katherine Lee (Phil) of Nashville, Tennessee, Hank Dowling of Denver, Colorado, and Wesley Dowling (Farrell) of Marietta, Georgia; six grandchildren, Thomas and Ben Lee, Millie and Baylee Oakes, and Vivian and Everly Love-Dowling; and her sister, Randi Snow (Gary). She is also survived by her beloved niece, Sarah Moore, and nephews, Randall and Matt Green, Andy and Hunter Anderson, and Hank Snow, along with many extended family members.

A memorial service celebrating Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church, 900 Greensboro Avenue, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35401.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of East Mississippi.

Nancy will be remembered for her kindness, her laughter, her unwavering devotion to family, and the comfort and joy she brought to those fortunate enough to know her.
