Lonette Wyrick

March 8, 1929 — September 28, 2016

Lonette Loraine Wyrick, age 87, of Nashville, TN passed Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at West Meade Place (WMP), Nashville, TN where she had been a resident since December 23, 2011. She was born March 8, 1929 in Knoxville, TN.In her final hours, friends and family had visited and her neighbors came in those last moments to sing a couple of "old timey" hymns and pray The Lord's Prayer. Her minister since 1987 then prayed as he had done every time he visited Lonette. Just a little while later, Lois & Ron Carrier received news of her leaving her body diagnosed with liver & pancreatic cancer. At news of the diagnosis, Guardian Life Hospice was selected to begin caring for her on August 15, 2016, at WMP. Just mentioning her name at WMP and you would be shown if she were in the dining room, playing bingo or taking a nap. WMP Staff, Chef, Housekeeping and Maintenance are given the most "thank you" comments possible.Lonette graduated from Knoxville High School 1947. Her peers selected her to be Art Editor for "The 1947 Trojan Year Book". This entitled her to draw caricatures for each section of their senior high school yearbook. The yearbook may be viewed at to enjoy her artwork of "Bosco" that was so popular at that time. Later in life when Lonette came to Nashville, she worked at type setting for Ghertner Printing until that location closed.A photo album of Lonette's is filled with pictures of various travels to London, Paris, Tokyo, box seats at Annual Kentucky Derby Day and other exciting places and events. She was the guest of "Hap" Motlow and his niece, Judy Boyd Tergen on train trips from Nashville to New York and New England via private dining and Pullman cars.Sewing flannel teddy bears to be given to charitable organizations was a past-time of enjoyment for Lonette. In spite of an arthritic knee, she took time to use her rather well-used Singer sewing machine to place fancy machine stitches on pre-cut flannel and pastel color baby blankets. She would sew eight to ten blankets, press them with her iron, and then place a matching ribbon around each set of blankets. Then the blankets and teddy bears were taken by a neighbor to Nashville General Neo-natal and Vanderbilt Hospital's infant area, where newborn infants without warm covering were provided to take newborns home.Until Lonette's later life, she enjoyed TV game shows & growing very large tomato plants right beside the outside space of her den door, to share with neighbors. However, many falls in her home dictated that she needed to be moved in order to receive 24/7 care.Lonette is predeceased by her father, Forest Charles Wyrick; her mother, Vesta Fern Hale Wyrick; brother, Carlos Wyrick; sister, Barbara Wyrick Human; and nephew, John Human.Lonette is survived by brother, Ron Wyrick of Knoxville; great nephew, Brandon Wyrick; nephew, Charles Philip (Debbie) Human of Maryville; great niece, Savannah Human; and several other nieces and nephews.A graveside service will be held at 11 A.M., Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Highland South Memorial Park, 9010 West Simpson Road in Knoxville, TN with Dr. Ronald Carrier officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
