Judith Ann Sachs
March 23, 1945 - August 14, 2026
Judith Ann (“Judi”) Sachs, 81, of Nashville, TN, died peacefully at home on August 14, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Judi was born on March 23, 1945, in Evanston, IL, and grew up in Highland Park, IL. She graduated from DePaul University with a BA in English and worked in several jobs before accepting a management training position at Western Electric. But not enjoying the corporate world, she moved to Nashville in 1979 to pursue her passion for music. While pursuing her dreams, Judi also worked as an executive assistant at several law firms, becoming indispensable in every position she held.
Judi expressed her passion for music through singing and was a member and soloist with the Vine Street Christian Church choir for many years. She was an avid lover of classical music and began to usher for the Nashville Symphony after her retirement, working there until shortly before her death. In addition to Judi’s love of music, she loved animals, rescuing many dogs and cats over the years; she died with her beloved cat, Piglet, and dogs, Ricky and Lucy, by her side. Judi also was a passionate equestrian, and rode her horses (Snip, Apache, and then Charlie) in Percy Warner Park every week. She also loved to read, always had a book in hand, several books on hold at the library, and a New Yorker by her side.
Judi was a fiercely independent woman who lived life on her own terms. She cruised to Alaska with a friend and then did a Baltic cruise on her own. She was generous and kind to others, made contributions every month to support charitable causes that were important to, was always willing to help someone in need, and always sent birthday greetings to her family and many friends every year.
Judi is survived by her life partner, David Martin; her sister, Barbara (Sachs) McCrady and husband Dennis; her nephew Eric McCrady and wife Kari; her grand-nephew, Finnegan McCrady; her stepdaughter, Alison Simpson; and her step grandchildren, James and Cole Simpson. She loved them all and was always the first to celebrate their achievements. Judi was preceded in death by her parents, James and Margaret (Miller) Sachs.
A gathering to celebrate Judi’s life will be held at a future time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Nashville Symphony or the Vine Street Christian Church.
