John Henderson Stiles, age 74 of Kingston Springs, TN passed away on April 30th, 2016 of complications with Parkinson’s Disease. John was born in Madisonville, TN.John was preceded by his father, Shelton Stiles and his mother, Johnnie Hicks.He leaves behind his wife, Cat Carter; sisters, Mary Spann, Shelton Belcher, Colleen Russell; and several nieces and nephews.He was a writer, editor, and columnist for the Knoxville News Sentinel for 33 years and had a passion for writing about the outdoors such as hiking in the Smokey’s, adventure racing, and events involving dogs. He was an avid hiker, backpacker, runner, and whitewater canoeist. John and his wife, Cat Carter, had a love for Border Collies and did volunteer work for the East Tennessee Border Collie Rescue for many years. John was always proud that he and Cat fostered and placed 52 Border Collies through the rescue group before Parkinson’s made it impossible to continue.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name can be sent to the East Tennessee Border Collie Rescue: ETBCR 242 Joel Rd. Oliver Springs, TN 37840. A memorial tribute can be seen on their website:www.bordercollierescuetn.com .Visitation and celebration of his life will take place at Studio Mills at 406 N Main St, Kingston Springs, TN on Thursday May 19th, 2016.
