Obituary

Jerry Doyle "JD" Vaughn, 91, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, in Dickson, Tennessee. Born on December 21, 1934, in Tyler, Texas, Jerry lived a remarkable life filled with diverse experiences and deep connections.

Jerry proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from November 4, 1952, to September 2, 1954. During his service aboard the U.S.S. Gyatt as a boilermaker, he exemplified dedication and resilience.

Throughout his life, Jerry pursued a wide array of careers that showcased his versatility and work ethic. He worked as a fire watchman at the Grand Canyon and in the oil fields of Texas and New Mexico. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become self-employed as a fabricator of docks and boat slips at various lakes in Arizona. Additionally, he was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a store owner, and a deputy with the Search & Rescue Department in Yavapai County, Arizona. Jerry’s professional endeavors reflected his adventurous nature and willingness to embrace new challenges.

Jerry’s personal passions brought joy to those around him. He loved entertaining friends and family with his singing, harmonica playing, and comedic routines. Gardening, baking, fishing, and dancing to country music were among his favorite pastimes. In earlier years, he enjoyed flying his own airplane and scuba diving—activities that highlighted his zest for life.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife Judy Vaughn; son Darren Vaughn (Rosie); daughters Leda Lyles (Greg) and Webbie Carvajal (Jerry); sisters Donna Williams, Dixie Williams, and Darlene Williams; stepchildren Donald Kimbrell (Pam), Donna Sutton, Susan Swecker (Ed), and Sheri French (Cliff); nephew Kelly Stublefield; numerous other nieces and nephews; 32 grandchildren; and 54 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Hiram Ezra Vaughn and Maxine Williams; sister Delores Stublefield; and grandson Andy Heady.

Jerry’s warmth, humor, and love for life left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His memory will be cherished by family members and friends alike.

May Jerry Doyle Vaughn rest in peace as those who loved him find comfort in the legacy of laughter, love, and adventure he leaves behind.
