Howard Mcabee

Howard D. "Red" McAbee, age 85 of Old Hickory, TN passed away June 4, 2017 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born August 26, 1931 in Nashville, TN to the late Johnnie McAbee and the former Ethel Naomi Johnson.Mr. McAbee joined the U.S. Navy in 1950 and served during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Belle Grove. He owned his own business as a drywall contractor for many years before retirement. He loved being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He will long be remembered as someone who always helped others when they were in need.Mr. McAbee was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jean McAbee who passed away July 22, 2004.He is survived by his daughter, Teresa (David) Owens; son, Jason McAbee; grandchildren, Joshua (Audrey) Owens and Seth Owens; great-granddaughter, Naomi Owens; and step-son, Gary Tudor.A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 1 P.M., Friday, June 16, 2017 in the Welch Memorial Cemetery in Monterey, TN. His song ended, but his melody lingers on. No longer will his ship beat against the current. His light will shine on, as a sailor of eternity, for he has broken through the rogue waves.
