Dorothy Luton

March 16, 1929 — October 19, 2022

Dorothy Green (Dot) Luton passed away peacefully in Goodlettsville, TN on October 19, 2022 at the age of 93.   Dot was born in Nashville on March 16, 1929 to Tyler Berry Green and Madge Young Green.  She is survived by her daughter Laura Luton, son Tom Luton (Dana), grandchildren Madison Luton, Alesha Luton, Cooper Luton (Kara), and Aaron Luton.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Herbert W. (Bub) Luton, their son, Steve Luton, her parents and younger brother, Jim Green.

During the early depression years, Dot’s father traveled the country as a bank auditor.  As a result, she often moved with her family, or lived with extended family:  attending elementary school in Memphis, TN, Junior High in New York City, 10th and 11th grade at Isaac Litton High in Nashville, and graduated from West End High School in Nashville.

Dot joined Inglewood Methodist Church where she met Bub and they were married in the church on June 8, 1948. After Bub served in both the Army and Navy during the Korean War, the couple moved to Goodlettsville in 1955 and joined Connell Memorial United Methodist Church (Connell).  At about this time, Laura and Steve joined the family, followed by Tom a few years later.

Over the years Dot did not work outside the home.   She was, however, active at Connell, and at various times served as the United Methodist Women’s President at Connell, the Cumberland district president for UMW, was active in the Tennessee Conference social relations UMW, and a board member of the Bethlehem Center.

Dot had a lifelong love of gardening and wild flowering, was an avid reader, and enjoyed playing Bridge with friends. She was also an excellent cook, directing the Wednesday night meal at Connell for many years.  She was a kind and generous mother and wife, and a good friend to many.  She enjoyed camping and had a wonderful sense of humor.  She remembered those less fortunate than her, and she cared about the world and the community in which she and her family lived.   She was always there for others, for all of her years, and she will be missed deeply by family and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday November 12, 2022 at Connell located at 113 Church St., Goodlettsville, TN, with visitation at 11:00 followed by a service at noon.   All are welcome.   Dot asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Alive Hospice.
