David Kirkpatrick

d. October 28, 2019

David Paul Kirkpatrick, age 76, passed away peacefully on Oct. 28, 2019 at the Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN after a short illness. He was born and raised in Aberdeen, SD and had made his home in Franklin, TN for almost 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth H. Kirkpatrick and Marion Peterson Kirkpatrick; Jo Ann Moran Kirkpatrick, his wife of 34 years; his younger brother, Peter Kent Kirkpatrick and his former wife, Gayle Hagen Kirkpatrick.
After graduating from Aberdeen Central High School and Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, David began his career in the retail jewelry business in Aberdeen. He joined his father in Kirkpatrick's Jewelry, a business started by his grandfather in 1906, making it a three-generation business which continued more than 80 years. His brother, Peter, also joined the business. After David and Jo Ann were married, they moved to Zionsville, IN and then to Franklin, TN in 1990, where David continued to work in the retail jewelry business. David had a great love for the Kirkpatrick family's lake cottage in SD and went there whenever possible. It was his dream to someday spend summers there with his family and the families of his brothers. For several years he and Jo Ann spent their winters in Mesa, AZ, enjoying the warm weather and their circle of good friends. He and his brother, Kenneth, liked traveling together and attending collector car auctions in Scottsdale, AZ. After the death of Jo Ann in 2017, David enjoyed playing canasta and cribbage with friends and sharing time with his stepdaughter and her children.
David is survived by Robin Taylor of Franklin, TN, his stepdaughter; his brother, Kenneth M. Kirkpatrick (Jennie) of Cleveland, TN; and step grandchildren, Taylor Marie Harris, Kaycee Lynne Harris and Samuel Michael Harris; and two step grandchildren. David and his stepdaughter and her children enjoyed a very close relationship. Robin and her children provided David a full, rich life. Her children considered him to be their grandfather and loved him very much.
A celebration of life service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 525 Sneed Road in Nashville on Nov. 23, 2019 at 1 o'clock. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the church for family and friends.
