Billie Carol Yeager, a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted member of the Nashville community for 60 years, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Richland Place. She was 92 years old.
Billie was born in Charleston, West Virginia, on May 28, 1933, to the late Lorenzo Dow (Bill) and Mary Buelah (Burris) Griffith. A proud 1951 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, she went on to attend Morris Harvey College. In 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert W. (Bob) Yeager, beginning a partnership that would last a lifetime. The couple and their two oldest children, Bill and Beth, moved to Nashville in the mid 1960’s, planting deep roots in the community. Barbara Carol, the third child came along in 1965.
Billie’s life was one of service, music, and beauty. She was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where she volunteered and sang in the choir for over 40 years. Her love for music also filled her home, as she taught piano to neighborhood children for many years. Billie was an ardent patron of the Nashville Symphony and the fine arts. She dedicated over two decades of volunteer service to Cheekwood and was an avid tennis player.
As the loving matriarch of her family, Billie’s grace, strength, and unwavering support were the foundation upon which her family was built. She strived to expose her children and grandchildren to the arts, with field trips to The Frist, TPAC, Children’s Museum, and the Zoo.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Yeager; son-in-law, Chuck Williamson; and brother-in-law, Curt James.
Her legacy of love is carried on by her sister, Mary Susan James; her children, Bill (Sherry) Yeager, Beth Williamson, and Barbara (Mark) Wilson; her six adored grandchildren, Maggie (Dan) Vossler, Mary Grace (Nick) Distretti, Allen (Nikki) Wilson, Trey (Lauren) Williamson, Carol Ann Wilson, and Lauren Williamson; and four precious great-grandchildren, Lewis, Lorraine, Charlotte, and Tony. And a special thanks to the staff at Richland Place, and special caregivers Bradley and Ursula.
Visitation with the family will be held at 3:00 PM with a Celebration of Life Service at 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 16 at Calvary United Methodist Church.
