ARTHUR “ART” PRENTISS QUICK, 92, of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away on May 16, 2022.
Art was born on June 4, 1929 in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Marvin and Sallie Mae Jacobs Quick.
Art Quick joined the United States Navy Seabees at age 17, served for four years and was stationed at San Diego, California. And, he served briefly in the South Pole during the Korean War. Art was also a member of the illustrious All-Navy Golf Team with Gene Littler and Billy Casper. As a veteran, he was a member of the prestigious American Legion.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Art opened the Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California in 1957 where he developed a reputation as a great golf teacher.
Art Quick’s job during Hollywood’s golden age certainly had its perks. His golf skills earned him a spot on the PGA Tour from 1974 to 1975. He was an excellent player and later won several tournaments in the Southern California Section, the Arizona Section, the Oklahoma Section and the Tennessee Section. He also won several Pro-Ams, scrambles, and Pro-Junior events. In one of the TN PGA Section pro-ams at Brentwood CC, Art shot a 5-under par 67 and won low pro honors by 4 strokes!
Following his playing career, Art built a successful reputation as a golf instructor, fusing his professional knowledge of the game with a charming personality and life story. He opened the Art Quick Golf Academy in Nashville, TN in the late 1980s for 30 plus years teaching several Country Music Stars and others.
More importantly, Art Quick was a fine Christian man, a life member of the PGA, who was admired and respected by the TN PGA Section and by many students that he has taught through the years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Quick was preceded in death by his siblings Marvin Clinton Quick, Sarah Morena, Edna Quick, Thera Mae Ennis, Francis E. Quick, and Bobby Eugene Quick.
A celebration of this life will be held at Middle TN State Veterans Cemetery located at 7931 McCrory Lane Nashville, TN on June 14, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the rotunda.
