Angelia (Angel/Angie) Lucille Newsom

October 13, 1948 — September 13, 2025

LaVergne, TN

Angie's family moved to Antioch Tennessee the following year after her birth. She was the oldest of 5 siblings and was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Ada Newsom, her brother Kenny Newsom Sr. and Vickie Newsom. She is survived by Charlie Newsom, Elaine Newsom (Jay Krupka), Michael (Kimberly) Newsom and Joyce Newsom, Robert (Beverly) Amico as well as her companion, Diane Amico. She is also survived by an abundance of loving family members of nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends.

She was a dairy farmers daughter and endured a hard farm life of working at an early age including driving a tractor at 5 years old. Angie graduated from Antioch High School in 1966 with high honors and perfect attendance. She joined the Air Force right out of high school. She had numerous assignments in many U.S. states as well as Canada, Thailand, Germany, Belgium, Greece and Wake Island where she was the 1st female Base Commander. She obtained her master’s degree in Behavior Science and another in Management. She worked as a logistics Intercept Operator, was an Air Traffic Controller, received Combat Training, and served with the Strategics Air Command. She served proudly for 20 years and retired as a Captain in 1986.

After her retirement she obtained her Nautical Captains License and opened a charter boat fishing business (Angel Fish Charters) in Port Aransas Texas where she led the way for female captains to charter fish in a male dominated area. In 1990 she moved back to Antioch TN to be near her family. She worked at BNA Airport, a bike assembly business and became a claims manager for Roadway Express. She retired from Roadway in 2005. She had a house built in LaVergne TN in 1994 where she resided until her death. Angie was Aunt Angel to her nieces and nephews and took pride in going to their ball games and teaching them to fish at a young age. Some are adults now with children of their own. She had several boats over the years at 4 Corners Marina on Percy Priest Lake where she fished with family and friends. If going out on the boat wasn't available due to weather, she was happy to fish off the docks. She also loved to play video games, trivia, poker, scratch offs and slots. She was a great cook and would often come up with Michelin star dishes. She collected recipes and recipe books and loved creating new meals. She cooked any seafood dish to perfection, as well as country comfort food dishes. And she was a master on the grill. She enjoyed a beer or a cocktail and loved family gatherings especially Family reunions and Newsom Pool Parties. She was spontaneous with taking trips around the country and would tell Diane to pack a bag on a Friday, with her not knowing what the plan was. But it was always an adventure that created wonderful memories.

She was both a dog and cat lover, having rescued 17 over the 35 years since moving back to Tennessee. They were all treated like her children and lived long loving lives. She attended Nashville Spiritual Center where she became friends with many who worshiped there. Angie had an infectious laugh and smile, she was smart, witty, and an interesting storyteller. She was kind and caring and would offer anyone the shirt off her back or the shoes off her feet. She went above and beyond for her family and her friends. She always made sure everyone was taken care of even to her last breath. She would share whatever she had with anyone who was in need, having shared lottery winnings at times before she ever spent a dime on herself.

Angie’s legacy will always be a positive memory of love. There are not enough words to express what Angie meant to the people in her life. There will never be a final chapter to the life of Angie (Angel) Newsom's story. She will forever be loved and missed and will continue to live on through her family and friends.
