Michael Alfred Wolverton, age 71 of Nashville, passed away on June 22, 2015. Mike was born May 5, 1944 in Richmond, CA to Alf and Hazel Wolverton.
Mike moved to Texas at age 6. He attended South Oak Cliff High School before entering the Army and serving in Korea, just prior to Vietnam. He was a member of the IBEW and was a master electrician, general contractor, and a private pilot. Mike was a small business owner until his retirement last year. Mike lived life to the fullest, loving travel, flying, sky diving, scuba diving, golf and most important, his family. Tim McGraw’s song said it best, “Someday I hope you get the chance to live like you were dying.”
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Lisa Patterson. He is survived by his wife, Sandra D. Wolverton; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Stephanie Wolverton; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Tim DuBois; son-in-law, Kevin Patterson; sister, Biddy Lou Mumme; grandchildren, Austin DuBois, Chandler and Tristan Wolverton, and Joshua and Cailey Patterson; several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be conducted at 10 A.M., Saturday, June 27, 2015 in the Outdoor Chapel of Woodmont Christian Church.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association at 1818 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203, Above + Beyond Cancer at 1915 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50309 or to www.aboveandbeyondcancer.org, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

My heart is breaking for you! If ever two were soulmates, it was you & Mike. You are both very special spirits & will be together forever but it will be lonely here without him for now. You are loved & thought of frequently & you will always have a place in California to get away to if you want to. I wrap my arms around you in love & wish you peace.

Sandi,
To work for Mike was to work with Mike, he was right there, knee deep in the middle of whatever had to be done. He taught me volumes and absolutely changed my craft and outlook on those around me. I had the pleasure of working in a trench full of mud one day and then on top of a tower the next with Mike, he was one of a kind and will be missed.

Sandi and family . . . I am so sad about the passing of Mike . . . my prayers and thoughts are with you every day. I sent you some messages on Facebook . . . the message below is one of my favorites and I send it to you as you begin your journey forward without Mike:
“May the Living Lord go with you, May He go behind you to encourage you, Beside you to befriend you, Above you to watch over you, Beneath you to lift you from your sorrow, Within you to give you the gifts of Faith, Hope and Love, and Always Before you to show you the way . . . Amen.” May God comfort and bless you and your family. MaryKay

Ms Sandra & family,
Please accept my sincere condolences and sympathy for the passing of Michael. Your husband and I had worked many projects before he retired from AWS. We had been checking on each other almost monthly by telephone and were exchanging / sharing our military experiences since we are both veterans. It became more personal as Mike would speak about your trips to see the children in Dallas, TX. This inturn brought our stories concerning where we were November 22, 1963. This eventually lead to Michael sending me a book to read. He certainly became the older brother I never had and I will miss him very much.
May God Bless you and ease the pain of this great loss!
With Deepest Sorrow,
Ted Dudley

Sandy and Family,
I know words seem like such a small and futile attempt to alleviate the sorrow you must feel. I too feel this sorrow.
A wise man once said you can do nothing about the length of your life, but you can do something about its width and depth. Mike assured me just last month his had been both. A life well lived. I will miss my friend.
