Dr. Marty Lee Glisson, age 58, of Cross Plains, TN was welcomed home by his loving Savior on Sunday, August 7, 2016. He was born March 5, 1958 in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of Dr. Eugene and Wanda Glisson.
If you had a vision or a dream, “Doc” Marty Glisson was the one to help make it a reality. If an area needed food, a satellite food distribution program would be established to reach the multitude of hungry. Where education was lacking, schools and colleges were placed on reservations, inner cities and internationally. Churches were planted, bibles interpreted in local languages, medical equipment, health and dental care provided… you name it, if there was a need, Doc found a way. Music was also a huge part of Doc’s life. He wrote countless songs to encourage, uplift, and heal broken souls.
The generous and abundant love he grew with his amazing wife and partner, Amy Glisson will continue to nourish their two incredible children and inspire us all to love further and stronger than our hearts can imagine. We were graced by all of this through one human being, a man who devoted himself to his beautiful family, music and selfless work for others, while throughout his time here suffered gallantly with Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. It is without a doubt that the Lord welcomed him home saying, “Well done my good and faithful servant!” His laughter and passion for bettering the world, his songs and encouraging words, his love, determination and illuminating smile will be missed until we are all together again.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Eugene Glisson; mother, Wanda Maxine Glisson; brother, Alan Eugene Glisson; and daughter, Chasity Sunshine Lee Glisson.
He is survived by his wife and life partner of 27 years, Amy Jean Glisson; son, Joshua Alan Lee Glisson; daughter, Rebeccah Maxine Glisson; brothers, Steve (Shirley) of Navarre Beach, FL, Daron (Margie) of Cross Plains, TN, Chris (Sara) Glisson of St. Joseph, MI; brothers-in-law, Jeremy (Tessa) Lander of Temecula, CA and Scott Lander of Gallatin, TN; a wonderful family of in-laws, Judy Lander of Bath, NY, Ron, (Leigh) Lander of Siler City, NC, Lisa (Terry) Brethen of Rochester, NY and Veronica Barbis of Batavia, NY. Many nieces, nephews, special aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
A great, big ‘Thank you’ to cousin Pam Frith for taking time out of her life to be here and help him walk his journey home, and also special friends, Lance and Susanne Huff and god-daughters, Gracie and Sydney Huff, Richard and Sandy Biastock, Bruce and Shari Quick, Randall and Paula Carr.
A special thanks to our friend and doctor, Dr. Dennis Rainwater from Northcrest Primary Care, and the staff of Caris Hospice, and especially our Angel on Earth, Nurse Sharon Robinson.
A Celebration of Life for Dr. Marty Glisson will be held at 4 P.M., Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 7109 Tennessee Highway 25, Cross Plains, TN with Dr. T.J. Francis officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 3 P.M. until the time of service.
Memorial Contributions may be made ‘In Memory of Dr. Marty Glisson’, c/o Amy Glisson, P.O. Box 292, Cross Plains, TN 37049.
